The Opening Party
17:00 Opening

We worried how many visitors would come to the opening because the Former Central Factory of the BVG went on strike on that day, but in fact the number of the visitors exceeded three hundreds. The café “Camp Kiosk” was opened where beer and mulled wine were served.

18:00 Opening Address

Artistic Director Yukinori Yanagi and the leader of the Berlin side Eran Schaerf delivered the opening address.

18:30 Foods for you and you.  

Food installation by Chinami Takahashi.
She served bit-sized foods to visitors. The foods intend to fuse and confuse Japanese and German food cultures.

19:00 Lovers' Ceremony I am in your blue eyes.”                    

Performance by Hirmi + Shige Fujishiro
They performed a “ceremony” in which a Japanese female artist Hirmi and her Swedish boyfriend pledged abiding love before a deity performed by Shige Fujishiro
.

David Polzin’s performance of immigration control started.
Visitors cannot enter “the sanctuary” of the work unless the artist, sitting at the immigration bureau, allows them to pass the gate.

21:00 Portable Ohanami Kit.

Karaoke Performance by Shitfun Factory
They performed karaoke singing Japanese songs with a microphone, which is included in Portable Ohanami Kit

Others. Wanderung (walking-tour).

The wall by Erik Alblas + Irene Päzug started moving.
The wall, which is their work,,started moving so slowly that it took ten days to get to the opposite side of the room.

Ofri Lapid’s light installation started.
His work is a shadow cast by a light outdoors after sunset.

Workshop & Talk Event
12:00  “Let us make a tent! Make a ‘mountent’ with all. Uneven? Mountain shape? Why not connecting each other to get them through and take a rest.”

WorkshopMountentby Yoshiaki Kaihatsu.
Together with the visitors, the artist made tents which were increasingly connected with each other. It was as if the exhibition itself is changing daily.

15:00  Lecture by Artistic Director Yukinori Yanagi at Hiroshima City University

Artistic Director Yukinori Yanagi talked about the overview of Hiroshima Art Project and the role of art in the city of culture.

15:30  Presentation of The Former Naka Waste Incineration Plant Art Project by Planning Staff

Using PowerPoint, two of the planning staff Takahiro Iwasaki and Misaki Ohashi gave a presentation on “The Former Naka Waste Incineration Plant Art Project.”

Cherry Blossoms Viewing Tour by Shitfun Factory.
Carrying the Portable Ohanami Kit with them, they went to see cherry blossoms with the visitors in a park which is close to the venue.

15:00 Endless 0.

Performance by Shiho Okinaka
Through her silent performance of folding pieces of invisible paper, she asked visitors to think about the orizuru problem in Hiroshima.

Presentation on the Faculty of Art at Hiroshima City University by Tatsuo Ebisawa.
Showing visual images, he talked to German students about the organization and curriculum of Hiroshima City University.

Presentations by Shitfun Factory and Saya Irie.
Shitfun Factory gave a presentation on the ways in which they made the portable kit for cherry blossoms viewing, which is limited to the spring season in Japan, to be able to see the blossoms whenever they like. Saya Irie gave a presentation on the idea of the local “Mt. Fuji” and the impact of Hokusai Kakushika on it. 

19:00 Unexpected.

Secret event by Michihiro Shimabukuro.
He held an event where he talked with participants in the exhibition having dinner in the oldest restaurant.

The project addressed the “orizuru problem,” a unique problem in Hiroshima to find its solutions with visitors.

Critique by Eran Schaerf at the School of Art and Design Berlin-Weissensee
Eran Schaerf, the leader of the Berlin side, did a critique of the exhibited art works and talked about “the significance of the dialogue in the process of making.”

Presentation by Hirmi.
She gave a presentation on her performance at the opening in relation to the project, her previous works, and her future.

15:00  Migration of Folkcraft.

Nozomi Tomoeda started to transform a readymade Japanese folkcraft of black bear.
He took his work away for a while to transform it from a Japanese folkcraft of black bear standing on all fours to the Berlin bear standing on two feet.

Dialogue between Taro Furukata and Sophia Pompéry.
Taro Furukata, the managing chief of Camp Berlin, and Sophia Pompéry at the School of Art and Design Berlin-Weissensee had a public dialogue as one of the exchange projects between participating artists.

February 10
The Closing Party
15:00 Migration of Folkcraft.

Nozomi Tomoeda exhibited again the wooden bear.
The artist finished transforming the bear, on which he started to work since February 8, and exhibited it again to prepare for the closing party.

15:00 OKOKEB.

A coined word from okonomiyaki and kebab.
In our caf
é we served a new food named “OKOKEB,” a compound of the specialties in Hiroshima and Berlin: okonomiyaki, a pan-fried Japanese dish popular in Hiroshima and kebab, a symbol of the diversity of the foods in Berlin.

17:00  Portable Ohanami Kit: Cherry Blossoms Viewing Party at Night by Shitfun Factory.

We held a party under cherry blossoms in our venue at night and served a large number of Japanese-style rice balls to visitors. We sang karaoke with visitors to liven up the closing party.
